This week we are talking about Road Trips and Button Journeys 2. A few weeks ago we talked about the comparison between road trips and button journeys. Today we continue the discussion.
Dealing With Setbacks
Do you ever notice that we can be clipping along on our Button Journey doing quite well, and then we have a slip up:a bad night of pizza and potato chips, too many scoops of ice cream, or a whole loaf of bread and butter, and we quit.
We give up.
And we totally discard the idea that we are on our Button Journey with Jesus, and that he’s teaching us about ourselves, our body image, and how he created us. So basically we leave Jesus stranded on the side of the road in our Button Journey Car and wallow in our setback with a myriad of indulgences.
Stay On The Road
Setbacks happen. They are part of life. They are part of being human.
Imagine that you were taking a road trip to Florida to see your family and you ran out of gas. But instead of calling Triple AAA, or getting help to fill your tank, you sat on the side of the road for a few months until you got the courage to call for help.
Sound silly? Of course.
Yet this is exactly what we do with our weight-loss journey when we mess up. All too often we use a slip up to go on a binge and forget our food plan all together.
Realize How Far You’ve Come
When I first started my journey I had 200 pounds to lose.
Yes, 200 hundred pounds. (I’m sure many of you reading this cannot fathom that amount of weight.)
Now I have 140 pounds to lose. Still a huge amount I know.
What has kept me moving forward is reminding myself of how far I’ve come. That is what started the whole concept of the Button Journey is in the first place. I didn’t want to backtrack. So I keep telling myself that even if I hold steady for a few months it doesn’t matter, as long as I don’t regain the pounds I worked so hard to lose.
Focusing On The Journey
Stay focused on your journey experience. The journey, the things I am learning about myself, and my Lord as I wrestle with my food addiction are priceless.
Today I went to the Dress Barn to use their sale coupon and look for a new dress. I found a dress I liked and took several sizes with me into the dressing room to see which one looked the best on me.
It wasn’t until I was leaving with my size 20 dress that I realized how much my Button Journey has helped me to grow and change. Yes, I had purchased a smaller size dress, but I almost bought a size 24 dress because Iiked the color and the feel of it. My point is that the number on the dress tag no longer matters to me. This is huge in my Button Journey because dress sizes used to define my self-worth.
Focusing on the journey helps you to grow and mature all along the way. It’s about being comfortable in your own skin and trusting that God formed and fashioned you into the woman that He wants you to be.
